Jio to launch satellite broadband in 100 Indian cities by June with speeds up to 1Gbps

Reliance Jio's JioSpaceFiber service will compete directly with Elon Musk's Starlink following last month's government approval for satellite internet services.

Reliance Jio announced on Monday that it would launch its satellite broadband service, JioSpaceFiber, in 100 Indian cities and towns by June 2026, offering speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second. The announcement comes weeks after the government granted final approval for satellite internet services in India following years of regulatory delay.

JioSpaceFiber will compete directly with Elon Musk’s Starlink, which received its own operating licence last month and is expected to begin commercial services in India in the coming months. Amazon’s Project Kuiper is also expected to enter the Indian market later this year.

Jio’s pricing is expected to significantly undercut Starlink, with industry sources suggesting a monthly plan of around ₹1,500 for a standard home connection — roughly half the price Starlink charges in comparable markets. Jio declined to confirm pricing ahead of the official launch.
